The Sociology of Law Department at Lund University is undertaking a research seminar series in the spring
of 2024, focusing on decolonial sociology of law perspectives. Arising out of critical self-reflexivity concer-
ning the disciplinary origins, theories, and orientations associated with the sociology of law, as well as
the role of Sweden as a colonial power, notably in the Arctic region involving Sami peoples, this research
seminar series seeks to contribute towards decolonisation in various forms. Bringing together perspectives
from scholars at varying career stages, this research seminar series offers a platform for critical discussion
and debate on a range of issues germane to decolonising sociology of law, including the role of researchers,
positionality, and knowledge production, re-evaluating and reimagining foundational scholarship in the
discipline, and exploring ongoing decolonial practices and processes.
