The findings of the software “operated” by Posa’s team—which includes a former Army rifleman who served in the Balkans—suggestthat the hypothetical serial killer spends significant time(no less than eight hours a day) at aspecificpoint within the geographical triangle. Places presumed to have been traversed by the victims, who would have caught the killer’s eye and attention, prompting him to begin a tail if he lived there, or to strike up a conversation if, for example, he had a business in that area. A shopkeeper. Or a self-employed artisan, lacking a steady stream of customers, which—given the varying times of the murders—allowed him to move freely, entering and exiting the shop without arousing suspicion.
